Less can be more

Greetings blog-viewers!
This past weekend was one that was filled with celebration. I attended two parties on back-to-back nights. The first was a low-key event at a good friend's house ("Steve" may or may not be his real name to protect his privacy) in preparation for the epic Halloween party that was to follow the next day. Just a few guys, and eventually a girl (What up?!) hanging out, drinking beers that we haven't tried before.
Steve bought us some "Urbock," a dark beer made by Creemore Springs once a year, and sold for a limited time annually. It was a delicious beer, and I highly recommend any beer drinkers out there to try it.
So, back to the event: it was a great time! On the scale of "the aY's good times from 1 to 10," I would rate it as a 6!
Just a note: My scale works differently than most other people's scales. While most people would equate a "1" as a bad event, and "10" as excellent, mine allows for more fun to be had in the same time. All parties with the aY involved are at LEAST good. So, a 1 is good. And for me, that is still considered bad. So on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is "Good" and 10 is "Epic," my night at Steve's (rated as a 6) is considered "EXCELLENT!"
The formula for the night was simple: Some good friends, some drinks, and good conversation equates to excellence. I guess the synergy of those parts really did what synergy means!
However, we follow up with the next night. The big Halloween Party ("Monster's Ball") at the Ontario Science Center. Can someone say, "weak?"
Here, I'll say it: "Weak!"
This party tried to be so much, and in the end ended up being a shadow of what it was supposed to be. It wasn't "Monster's Ball." It was more of just, "Balls." Let's sum up the party here:
1- $40 cover. Pricey, but if the party was awesome (it wasn't), then well worth it.
2- Standing in long lines to buy $8 drink tickets.
3- Standing in another long line to get your drinks.
4- Did I mention the drink tickets were $8?
Oh, for this next point, I have to give you a little side story: I was discussing earlier with some people if they thought last call would be extended on the night of the party. Daylight Savings was going to finish up, so the clocks would go back one hour. My question was if the bar would extend it's time open since Last Call would technically be pushed back an hour (because at 2:00 AM, it would go back to 1:00 AM). We all know that bars want to make more money so they should extend Last Call by one hour. In most other instances where I went to parties during DST, they extended Last Call. Just an FYI: almost every place downtown extended their Last Call time.
5- Last Call was at 1:00 AM. (Can someone say "/facepalm?")
6- The DJ's didn't understand that the music you play is supposed to get people to want to dance.
7- The party wasn't that full...
8- Taxi's weren't waiting for people after the party.
So, needless to say, the party wasn't the greatest. It wasn't a bad party, however it wasn't a good one either. So, for this instance only, I had to create a new entry on my "the aY's good times scale from 1 to 10." I give the Monster's Ball a ZERO (0). This is not good, but not bad.
So, the point of all this?
One simple phrase that can sometimes apply: "Less is More."
