Takeda Intake impressions!

Hello all!
This blog is telling you my experience installing the Takeda Retain Short Ram Intake for the 2.0L Mitsubishi lancer engine.

All-in-all, the design of the intake itself as far as functionality is great, but I was plagued with a few problems during the actual installation of the intake.

First, i opened up the wonderful box. Inside, I opened a little bag that came with decals, a license plate frame, and a keychain! I decided to attach that keychain to my keys right away.

My good friend Elie was kind enough to help me install the intake. He has the tools for any job. Ladies, take note.

Also, if you have any car troubles or if you are looking for a good mechanic, you can visit him at Elie's Automotive.

During the installation, the instructions wanted me to attach the heat shield to a bolt that is already in the stock engine setup. However, the stock screw was too short. Like, REALLY too short. We had to improvise and attach a nut to the bolt, and screw another screw into the nut. It was hard to get it to fit, but we finally got it. Maybe other Lancer's have longer screws, but apparently mine didn't. Please note, this is not reflective of my personal being.

Another issue with this intake is the rubber elbow mount that attaches the tubing to the engine itself. The rubber piece is really a little too large. In the end, the binding will get the job done attaching the pieces together, but there really was no need to make the rubber piece so large.

As of 19 March 2010, I have been driving and I am noticing a better pull at around 3500 RPM than before. One thing to note, after a lot of driving, I opened up my hood and put my hand in the engine bay. There is a big difference in temperature in the areas divided by the heat shield. The air temperature difference is like day and night. It worls great so far!

Nothing like a little afternoon car work! Thanks for reading, all!
